EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Inspired by the life of her beloved grandmother and a lifelong love of fashion, Amika Berrios has launched a new on-line shopping business, Norma Face, which caters to young women.
"Norma Face is named after my late grandmother Norma Chaidez, who was totally gorgeous and even in her 80s was one of the classiest and best dressed woman I have ever met," Berrios said. "Since I was little, everyone has pointed out that we had a great deal of similar features and I was nicknamed Norma Face. I named the e-boutique in honor of my grandmother, whom I miss so much."
Berrios was raised in Eastchester and attended Tuckahoe schools before moving to Brewster a decade ago. She went on to a career as a therapist for at-risk youth and took what she terms a "leap of faith" to begin a new venture.
"I was a therapist working in homes of high risk youth for many years and I was completely burnt out," Berrios said. "My husband and I talked about me having a chance to venture into something more creative and finding an outlet that was more fun."
Berrios recalled her childhood when she had "a sidewalk store" called No Regrets in Southport, Maine, where she spent summers with her family and drew from that experience for Norma Face.
"I would sell homemade jewelry and chachkies," she said. "Those were some of the best days and I was pretty good at delivering a product that would sell. So, I asked myself, what would I want to buy? Obviously, I love shopping for clothes. It seemed only fitting that having an online e-boutique would be my next adventure."
Norma Face features women's apparel in all styles and fashions at reasonable prices. To celebrate the launch of the site, the first 50 customers will get 20 percent off their order using discount code: NORMAFACEGRANDOPENING and there is also free shipping for orders over $100 using code: FREESHIPPINGNF14.
