Don't Miss Westport's Memorial Day Parade

If you're heading out to Westport's annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, here's an overview of the day's events.

The parade will kickoff at 9 a.m. at Saugatuck Elementary School on Riverside Avenue. From there, it will travel up Riverside Avenue, cross onto Post Road East and make its way to Town Hall on Myrtle Avenue. The Westport Community Band as well as the Staples High School, Bedford Middle School and Coleytown Middle School bands will perform in the parade.

A post-parade ceremony will take place on Veterans Green, across from Town Hall. There, Staples High School student Tori Schachne will sing the National Anthem, First Selectman Gordon Joseloff will address the crowd and parade Grand Marshal Tracy Sugarman, a World War II veteran, author and artist, will make a speech.

The placing of a memorial wreath and a 21-gun salute by Westport police officers will also take place. Staples students Dustin Lowman and Evan Burke will play "Taps." Other musical performances will include the Staples High School Band and Staples student Eva Hendricks.

Coffee and doughnuts, provided by the Westport Kiwanis Club, will available at the parade starting point from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
