Woodlands Boys Hand Dobbs Ferry First Loss

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Reece Williams matched a season-high 22 points to lead the offense and the Woodlands defense was consistent throughout Wednesday as the visiting Falcons handed previously-unbeaten Dobbs Ferry its first loss of the season with a convincing 75-56 victory.

Williams, a lefty shooter, ran the floor and made several medium-range jump shots, finding openings in the Dobbs Ferry defense. He also grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Falcons opened with a 21-14 first quarter advantage and bumped the lead to 37-27 at halftime playing chasing defense on the high-scoring Eagles.

“We were much more focused in this game than we have been this season,” said Williams, who scored 22 in the Falcons last game against Peekskill. “We made good passes and didn’t get into all that 1-on-1 we have been doing at times. This is probably the best all-around game we’ve played.”

Woodlands showed that focus after intermission, coming out at halftime with more energy than the Eagles. The Falcons produced a 17-7 third-quarter run to build a 20-point lead that sealed the win.

Woodlands upped its record to 6-3 following its most recent loss to Peekskill Saturday. The Falcons have lost twice to Peekskill and once to Fox Lane.

Andre Scipio, who scored 12 points for the Falcons, keyed the backcourt defense that pressured the Eagles up and down the court.

“We have been told about having a better focus and we did that in this game,” Scipio said. “I think we can be a much better team if we stay mentally focused. And the defense was very goo the whole game. We have to play good defense.”

Fred Bowers contributed 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and D’Andre Tilford added 14 for the Falcons.
