Southampton Man With Felony Convictions Caught Trying To Buy Firearm, Suffolk Sheriff Says

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Southampton resident Donald Johnson, 39, on Tuesday, Oct. 22, stemming from an investigation that was launched late last year.

It is alleged that Johnson attempted to illegally purchase a firearm in Riverhead on Dec. 22 last year, knowing that he was prohibited by doing so due to his previous felony convictions.

Johnson surrendered into custody at Suffolk County Sheriff’s Headquarters and charged with attempted criminal purchase of weapon and attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
