Halloween Night's Zombie Asylum Canceled In Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – For the second straight year, The Center@862 (formerly the Scarsdale Teen Center) has been forced to cut its annual haunted house short due to inclement weather.

This year, Hurricane Sandy’s wrath canceled three of the five events, including Wednesday night’s grand finale. Last year, a surprise October snowstorm eliminated two of the five scheduled days of the haunt, limiting attendance to approximately 400 guests.

Ellen Tiven-Moore, executive director of The Center@862, said last week that she had high expectations following successful advance ticket sales. As it turns out, Hurricane Sandy had other plans.

“Unfortunately the trick won this year, and we will not be able to present the Zombie Asylum tonight due to Mother Nature’s devastating blow too much of the nation,” Mary Blum, a PR official for The Center@862 said. “As you know, Scarsdale was also hit hard.”

Despite the extenuating circumstances, this year’s haunt still managed to exceed last year’s attendance total in just two nights. After spending nearly a year planning and five weeks setting up the haunted house at Supply Field, organizers said they hoped for better results.

“We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support in helping us mount such a successful haunt,” Tiven-Moore said. “By the end of night two, we had already surpassed last year’s entire attendance. I can only imagine what our final numbers might have been had we not had these weather concerns.”
