Stamford's Trinity Aims to Break Turkey Day Tie

STAMFORD, Conn. - The Trinity Catholic High School football team will try to end its season on a positive note on Thanksgiving Day. The Crusaders (3-6) host Wilton at 10 a.m. for the seventh annual holiday meeting of the two teams. The two teams are tied 3-3 in the Thanksgiving Day series.

Trinity's record is the same as last year entering the final game of the regular season. The running-centered Crusaders were devastated by the loss of lead running back Shaquan Howsie to a season-ending knee injury in week two against New Canaan.

Since then, Trinity has averaged just 14 points per game in their losses. Trinity's three wins were against teams that all have worse records — Bassick, Harding and Westhill.

Trinity will try to slow down a high-powered Wilton offense that is ranked third in the conference and averages 33 points per game. Wilton's wide receivers Rob Keers and Alex Ward have combined for 991 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns.

If Trinity can stop Wilton it will likely be thanks to senior Dan Parsons. The big defender leads the Crusaders with 66 tackles.

Trinity fell to Wilton 38-20 in last season's Thanksgiving Day contest. Wilton is trying for its first winning season since 2007.
