SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale has announced that tryouts for the 2013 Maccabi Games and JCC Artsfest will begin in January for athletes and artists.

There will be an informational meeting at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3 at the JCC, and tryouts will begin on Jan. 7. The Maccabi Games offer Jewish teenagers a chance to participate in an Olympic-style sporting event. It is the largest Jewish teen event in the world.

Male athletes interested in inline hockey or lacrosse; female athletes who participate in lacrosse, softball or volleyball; and artists involved in acting, improv, musical theatre, rock and jazz, sports broadcasting, visual arts or vocal music should attend a sign-up meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the JCC.

Others interested in participating in tennis, swimming, track, golf, table tennis, bowling or dance should attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the JCC.

The Maccabi Games promote community involvement, teamwork and religious pride. There is an Opening Ceremony and evening activities that encourage interaction among athletes and artists who travel to the event from around the world.

This year’s games will take place in Austin, Texas from July 28 through Aug. 2; and in Orange County, Calif. From Aug. 4 through Aug. 9. The JCC will send a delegation of athletes to both sets of games.abou
