SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s week-long Festival featuring the music of the Classical and Romantic period, will be held March 5-12 at both the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation and the school.

The Festival, “Spanning the Centuries, 1750-1900,” will include student solo recitals, chamber ensembles, the Festival Orchestra, Symphonette, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Flute Clubs, Beginner and Junior Voices, Chamber Choir and Suzuki Strings.

Performances begin on Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6 at Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation as the Festival Orchestra will perform Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides Overture under the direction of Jun Nakabayashi. The Beginner and Junior Voices, Chamber Choir, Flute Clubs and Wind Ensemble will also perform on the March 5 concert. The Suzuki Strings, Symphonette and Chamber Orchestra will share the March 6 concert with the Festival Orchestra. Admission is a suggested donation of $15, students free. The Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 468 Rosedale Ave., White Plains.

Student soloists and ensembles can be heard on recitals held at the Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, on Saturday, March 5, at 2 and 4 p.m.; Thursday, March 10, at 6:15 and 8 p.m.; Friday, March 11, at 6:15 and 8 p.m.; and Saturday, March 12, at 2:00, 4 and 7:30 p.m.. These recitals are free of charge and open to the public.

A special event, the HB Cello Virtuosi, featuring seven of the School’s remarkable cello faculty, has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the School’s Auditorium. Participating faculty members Michael Finckel, Adam Grabois, Nicole Johnson, Erich Schoen-René, Peter Seidenberg and Frederick Zlotkin will perform an all-Beethoven recital. The arc of Beethoven’s works for cello and piano neatly follows the evolution of music from the classical in to the late romantic period with his earliest works written in a "Mozartean" style and the latter being much more experimental and romantic.
