Touch-A-Truck, now in its fifth year, is one of the Junior League’s longest running events. It provides children the opportunity to climb aboard the bulldozers, tractor-trailers, fire trucks and other vehicles that help support the community each day.

As a special treat for the children, the men and women that drive the trucks will also be on hand to answer questions about their functionality and what purposes they serve to better the community.

Toni Haugh, the co-chair of the event, said that the annual event provides an opportunity for children to get hands-on with a variety of vehicles that are utilized in public service, construction, utility, landscaping and transportation. There will also be a section of antique and classic cars for parents to peruse while their children are busy learning.

“Touch-A-Truck is a family oriented event where our kids can touch everything,” she said.

“Children will be able to climb on and ask questions about the vehicles and equipment and learn how these machines help us and our community,” co-chair Vicki Hoffman added.

This year, a cherry picker truck from the Care of Trees, a concrete truck, and an Army vehicle will be new to the field that will also feature mainstays such as construction vehicles, police cars, a smoke house and ambulances.

To go along with the vehicles, there will be a face painter and balloon artist, a bounce house and exhibits from Main Street Pediatrics and Au Pair in America. The Bossy Frog Band will perform a concert at 10:30 a.m., with disc jockey Samir filling in after that.

Touch-A-Truck will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Immaculate Conception School on Winterhill Road in Tuckahoe. Tickets will cost $10 at the door on the day of the event. Proceed from Touch-A-Truck will support the Junior League’s mission to fight hunger and promote nutrition in the county.
