Girl Scouts throughout Westchester County will be selling handmade knitted items, personalized holiday gifts, guessing games and a variety of baked goods from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Eastchester Middle School cafeteria.

The craft fair is an opportunity for older girls to learn leadership and financial skills and for younger scouts to enjoy a day of fun, Tuckahoe-Eastchester Girl Scout volunteer Judy Fix said.

“Every event where you get a bunch of Girl Scouts together having a great time is successful,” she said. “The best thing about Girl Scouts is that every event provides an opportunity for each girl to practice being a scout.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the Girl Scouts. Each troop provided the council with a money-earning financial form to highlight specific fundraising goals. Individual troops will use the funds to sponsor trips and projects.

“It could be a trip to Beach Jam, community camping or a Broadway play,” Fix said. “It is also an opportunity for Girl Scouts to raise money for their individual Gold Award project.”

Several baskets, for all age groups, will be raffled at the end of the day to cap off the fair.

“Every troop that hosts a table at the craft fair has the opportunity to raffle off a basket. There are toy, perfume, international food, pocketbook and electronic item baskets,” Fix said. “It’s an exciting way to end the afternoon.”
