The Best Practices Workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 22 at the Tuckahoe Library at 71 Columbus Ave. in Tuckahoe. George Profous, Senior Forester at Urban and Community Forestry for the NYS DEC, will speak at 10 a.m. Profous will speak about the basic principles of young tree planting and pruning, using the ABC’s Field Guide To Young and Small Tree Pruning by Andrew Pleninger & Prof. Christopher J. Luley.

The workshop moves outside at 11:30 a.m. for demonstration and hands-on practice. Residents are asked to bring their favorite pruning tools, gloves and eye protection.

"The best way to improve tree survival and shape – and reduce future maintenance and storm damage- is by selecting the right trees for the right places and pruning them early," representatives said. "Over time trees always provide more benefits to the community than they cost. By starting when trees are young, we can reap maximum benefits, whether in your own yard, or the street and park trees in your neighborhood."

Registration is recommended as seats are limited. Residents can call 914-961-2121.
