EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - A lifelong Eastchester resident is teaming up with a local Tuckahoe business to host a benefit for his mother, who has been suffering from multiple sclerosis for more than two decades.
On Friday, Tuck’d Away Bar and Grill will have a guest bartender, Robert Brandy, for a special fundraising event in honor of his mother, Joyce Adimari-Brandy, with proceeds going to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Brandy, who has performed charitable works in the past with the Generoso Pope Foundation, said that he’s always “had a strong influence to give back and do what (he) could for the community.” He said the idea to guest bartend came organically, when his friend, and co-owner of Tuck’d Away, Mike Cuozzo and he decided to make it a night dedicated to charity.
“We were joking one night about having me ‘celebrity bartend’ one night, and we thought why not do it for charity,” Brandy mused. “I don’t need (the money) from a night of bartending, fortunately, so we decided we wanted to make it a thing, and do something for charity, so that’s what we’re doing now.”
With the event just days away, Brandy said that nearly 300 friends and family members were taking the trek toward Eastchester - some from as far as Boston and Miami - and a large public presence is expected for Friday night’s event.
Calling it “an incredible response,” Brandy said that he and his mother have both been blown away by the support for the cause they’ve battled for 22 years. He mused that in all his charitable endeavors, this is the first time he’s raised money for multiple sclerosis research since organizing a bake sale in fourth grade.
“Even if we weren’t raising any money, having people come from all over has brought a smile to her face,” he said. “Seeing the response, and getting her involved, and seeing the strong support system for everyone coming out for her has put a smile on her face.
“The goal is to make as much money as we can for this cause, but I have no expectations. Whether we make a few dollars or $10 million, that’s not the point. We’re just looking for people to show up and have a good time while making a difference.”
The event to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Brandy family will cost $50 per person, featuring an open bar, DJ, raffles and buffet. It will be held from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at Tuck’d Away Bar and Grill at 90 Yonkers Ave. in Tuckahoe.
