Friends and families have set up a GoFundMe fundraising page for the Foley family, which was forced to evacuate “with only the clothes on their back” on Wednesday, when a fire tore through their Hawley Place apartment building in Yonkers that took the life of one man.
According to the organizers of the fundraising page, the Foleys are expecting the birth of their second child “in the coming days,” and “they have each other and are staying strong through this unfortunate incident.”
In just one day, more than $8,000 of the stated $10,000 goal had been raised by more than 100 friends, family and well-wishers.
The fire broke out at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, taking the life of one man. The blaze was mostly contained to the fifth and sixth floors, but the entire building suffered extensive water and smoke damage as the blaze took the better part of the day to knock down. A temporary shelter was set up at the Yonkers Police Athletic League Center on North Broadway as members of the American Red Cross continue to assist dozens of displaced residents in finding permanent housing.
Those interesting in contributing to the Foley family can do so here.
“The Foley's have always been there for others and now it's our turn to be there for them when they need it most,” the creator of the page wrote. “Please give what you can. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.”
