EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – In an effort to help local families that may be economically challenged this holiday season, several Eastchester and Bronxville good Samaritans are teaming up to hold a turkey drive for those in need in Tuckahoe .

As part of their ongoing effort to aid disadvantaged families in Westchester, volunteers from the Eastchester Community Action Partnership (ECAP) have been actively collecting all of the fixings needed for a complete Thanksgiving dinner that will be distributed to families in advance of the holiday.

According to ECAP Site Director Don Brown, more than 200 families have already signed up to receive their Thanksgiving dinner. Last year, volunteers handed out a total of 315 turkeys, with all the trimmings needed for a proper Thanksgiving meal.

ECAP, an organization that has been helping Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville families since 1965, has more than two-dozen programs designed to address any social need that the community may face. In advance of the school year, they distributed nearly 150 backpacks , stuffed to the brim with school supplies.

Donations for the Thanksgiving turkey drive are still being accepted at ECAP headquarters at 142-144 Main St. Brown noted that they are still in need of holiday-specific donations such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, macaroni and cheese, piecrust, candied yams and gravy. Tax-deductible monetary donations will also be accepted.

The turkey drive will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at ECAP headquarters.
