Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Eastchester EMS Chief Tackling Childhood Cancer

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - As if saving and improving lives on a daily basis as a paramedic each day wasn’t enough, Eastchester EMS Chief of Operations Nick Louros has recently turned his attention to tackling childhood cancer, and he’s asking for the community’s help.

Eastchester EMS Chief Nick Louros announced his intentions to shave his head in an effort to raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Last week, Louros announced that he would be teaming with his colleagues at Eastchester EMS to host a head-shaving event at Molly Spillane’s in Mamaroneck next month to benefit the efforts of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a not-for profit organization that raises funds to help find cures for children with cancer.

According to St. Baldrick’s, head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen and has grown from one event in 2000 to more than 1,200 last year, raising “critical funds for childhood cancer research.” Last year, St. Baldrick’s reported that there were 46,260 head-shavees that raised nearly $39 million for research at the events.

With that in mind, Eastchester EMS scheduled an event scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 at Molly Spillane’s on Mamaroneck Avenue. Until then, Louros is accepting donations on his fundraising page. As of Tuesday afternoon, Louros had raised $100 of his $500 goal. Those interested in donating can do so here.

“I’m shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research,” he noted on his page. “Childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded, so I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.

“Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.”
