The subject of the day was the preservation of Earth and its resources as the crowds shared ways to conserve, rehabilitate and enjoy the environment while honoring singer/songwriter and activist Pete Seeger, who died in January at age 94, with a special tribute.

"Pete Seeger was a leader in conserving the environment and his work goes on," said Mary Andrews, who represented Riverkeepers at the Earth Day event. "I'm here because I love the water -- and want to do my part to help keep the rivers and lakes clean. We can all do a little something to make things better for the next generations."

The weather was perfect for a festival as musical groups and food vendors kept the crowds happy while they learned and shared information about alternative energy, recycling manufacturing, earth cleanup and natural foods and other products. There was a Zero Waste Station, recycled tote bags and T-shirts for sale and a sculpted Wishing Tree by Danielle Poletto where children tied their hopes to the branches.

Nick Michel of White Plains and co-worker Pavlo Stavrous were manning a booth for Bright Current solar energy suppliers that offers full solar energy to homeowners.

"People are just not aware that they can access solar energy and have it installed without cost," Michel said. "We have an opportunity here to meet people and get the word out. We try to educate as much as we can."

Children were the focus of many of the featured exhibits and displays. Some worked a small compost area, others pedaled a bike generating a blender that mixed fruit smoothies and others received free recycled bikes from the Ossining Rotary Club.

"We are learning about recycling and how to keep the Earth safe and clean," said Emily Winter from White Plains. "I think we should save the world of we can."

Jilly Puppets entertained and Mike & Miriam Risko, Blake Rowe, Adam Love, Elisa eimer & Jon Sobel and Anna Canoni performed.

The event closed with a sing-a-long Community Jam of folk singer Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land."
