Last Chance To Donate For Friends Of Scarsdale Public Library Book Sale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – As summer slowly inches toward conclusion, members of the Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library have entered the final week of collecting lightly used books from the community as their annual book sale approaches, one of the group's largest fundraising efforts of the year.

The Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library Book Sale is one of the most popular fundraisers each year.

Although the Book Sale won't be opened up to the masses for a few more weeks, volunteers with the Friends have been busy for months collecting donations, which will then be re-sold in a tier-ed style sale over four days, with proceeds benefitting programs and renovations at the library.

Donations can be left inside the gray door on the side of the library’s entrance off of Post Road. They can also be delivered to the library lobby. Books will only be accepted if they are new or gently used. Those that are damaged, moldy, dog-chewed or unsalvageable will not be accepted. Textbooks, encyclopedias, VCR tapes and similar items cannot be donated.

Each year, the Friends of the Scarsdale Library spend several months collecting items, and will provide more than 75,000 books, including several best sellers, classics, biographies, fiction, parenting, cooking, art, history, self-help, religion, business and poetry, all conveniently separated by genre. The sale has become so big that it has spread from the inside of the library to the outside, with dozens of shelves, bins and tables lining the front of the location.

This year, "Westchester County's premier book sale" will begin with a members' preview on Friday, Sept. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. The sale will then run through Sunday, Sept. 18, with new books added each day. Donations will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 26. Those interested in volunteering can contact Book Sale Manager Kathy Steves at steves10583@gmail.com.
