Here’s the story of one local organization that will be looking for support during Give Local this year.
The Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK) is making a difference in Westchester by raising the awareness of issues impacting area youth – including alcohol and other drug use. The organization uses various tactics to provide children and teenagers with useful information and skills needed to make healthy decisions, while also emphasizing the need for families to protect and nurture their children by getting informed and staying involved.
In addition to providing information and education to the community, ASK provides skills and training by sponsoring workshops and forums like Save A Life and the Youth Mental Health First Aid Course.
"All I can say after completing the course is – WOW! Not only did the Youth Mental Health First Aid course give me pointers, it exceeded all of my expectations. The training opened my eyes and taught me to identify many of the problems facing our youth today through behavioral patterns and sensory manifestations,” said Ed Lachterman, Yorktown Town Councilman and President of the Yorktown Lions.
