Ali Hoseinzadeh has been nominated for the International Au Pair of the Year award, which celebrates a caretaker’s “extraordinary impact on their host family, commitment to going above and beyond their duties and appreciation for meaningful culture change.”

Hoseinzadeh has taken care of the Scarlett family’s three children, providing live-in childcare since he came to the United States three years ago.

"Ali has been a wonderful addition to our family. He has been a fast learner and has adapted quickly to our family, the town, and the country,” Kristen Scarlett said. “He is not only interested in being part of the children`s lives but He is interested in being part of the town and exploring the city and country. He is always happy, bright and willing to help out.”

Hoseinzadeh first came stateside in June 2016 as part of the Cultural Care Au Pair intercultural exchange and childcare program. He cares for the family’s 10-year-old, 7-year-old and 7-month-old in exchange for the opportunity to live in the United States and attend American college classes.

"We had just had a baby girl when Ali joined our family in June. I wasn't sure how he would take to her or she would take to him but it was a very easy transition,” Beecher Scarlett, the children’s father added. “She is very happy to go to him in the mornings and for a while would really only go to me, her mother and Ali.

“Her eyes light up when he walks in the room. This had made me very comfortable leaving her to work and go out. (Our children) truly love and respect Ali. Overall Ali`s lay back nature, flexibility, positive attitude and willingness to help out makes him an exceptional au pair and deserve of the year award”

According to the International Au Pair Association (IAPA), the Au Pair of the Year award was established to recognize the people participating in the intercultural program. The winner will be announced next month and honored at the IAPA’s annual conference in Munich in March.

“Ali has gone above and beyond to create a healthy and enriching environment for his host children, while also challenging himself to learn a new language and culture,” Nadia da Silva, local childcare coordinator for Cultural Care Au Pair said in a statement. “He is a great role model for his host children and other young people in the community,”
