Bronxville High School Habitat For Humanity Helps Build Affordable Housing

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - After spending a weekend helping rebuild two homes for Yonkers veterans, the Bronxville High School Habitat for Humanity Club continued to pay it forward, raising additional money for the organization during homecoming.

During homecoming, the Habitat for Humanity Club raised more than $300 by allowing families to make a $5 donation to sign 2-by-4-foot pieces of wood that will be used to build additional affordable housing moving forward.

Habitat’s next fundraiser will be the annual gingerbread house decorating event in December.

“There was such a fun atmosphere at homecoming, which contributed to our very successful fundraiser,” Bronxville senior Sasha Ircha said about the event. “Knowing these planks of wood will actually be used to build homes for people in need in the local area made us all really proud.”

Chris Doyle, one of the advisors of the Habitat for Humanity Club - along with Zhanna Cabrera - said that it’s vital for his students to get started helping out in the community while they’re still young.

“It’s important that students are willing to give up a Saturday morning to help their local community,” he said. “(The students) see the difference they can make in the lives of families who live just a few minutes away from them.”
