The diapers and wipes will be donated to the recently opened Westchester County Diaper Bank.
“The Junior League of Bronxville is proud to have collected thousands of diapers for the Westchester County Diaper Bank,” Erica Sevilla, chapter president, said in a press release.
The diaper bank is operated by Junior League of Central Westchester members, and also works in partnership with County Executive Robert P. Astorino and the county’s Department of Social Services.
“It was a great opportunity for us to help mothers in our community and to help a sister League at the same time,” Sevilla said.
New members of the Junior League of Bronxville placed collection boxes at businesses and schools in Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe, and Yonkers; the drive ran from April 15-30.
Sevilla expressed gratitude for every community member who helped with the diaper drive, noting that “diaper deprivation” impacts one in three mothers.
If babies wear used diapers or wear a diaper for too long, emotional problems, serious infections, and overall poor physical health can result.
Mothers using public assistance are not eligible for funds covering the cost of diapers, which may lead some mothers to choose whether to pay bills or purchase diapers.
