Bronxville Womens Club Honors Clara Sorensen, Anthony And Margaret Colavita

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Clara T. (Dee) Sorensen and Margaret and Anthony J. Colavita were honored by the Bronxville Women’s Club on Sunday, April 24 at the BWC Clubhouse.

The club honored Sorensen as Woman of the Year and Margaret and Anthony Colavita with the Distinguished Community Service Award.

Club President Joyce Balint welcomed the more than 200 guests, including family, friends and elected officials praising the outstanding community service records of Sorensen and the Colavitas.

Tuckahoe Mayor Steve Ecklond, County Legislator Gordon Burrows and StateSen. George Latimer commended the honorees for their longtime dedication and contributions enriching the community’s quality of life.

Eastchester Supervisor Anthony S. Colavita praised the efforts of Sorensen for her long tenure of support for the Bronxville Women’s Club and the Bronxville community at large.

He also recognized his parents, Margaret and Anthony J. Colavita, for their decades of dedicated community and public service to the town and its two villages.

During the event, Balint announced that the Clubhouse was being named the Anna Lawrence Bisland 1928 House, the home of the Bronxville Women’s Club. Bisland is the daughter of Sarah Lawrence and was the first president of the Bronxville Women’s Club.

The event raised funds more than $26,000, which will go toward the ongoing updating and repairs to the building and its grounds.
