The Loukoumi Make a Difference Foundation, which works with more than 50,000 children and adults annually to perform good deeds, has scheduled the second annual Dance Party and Make A Difference Awards as a means to honor children, adults and organizations that inspire others to make a difference.
Elena Kampouris, an actress whose recent work includes a starring role in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” is to be honored for her work Autism Speaks. James Orphanides, president of Centurion Holdings LLC, is to receive the Inspiration Award for inspiring others through his philanthropic and business endeavors.
The event, scheduled from 6-10 p.m., is to feature a DJ, food, drinks and a visit from Loukoumi, the nonprofit’s fluffy white lamb mascot. FOX-5 News’ Ernie Anastos and Timothy Colombos, a child star on Nickelodeon’s “WITS Academy,” are expected to attend the awards as special guests.
A silent auction also is to be held, offering items from “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” that have been signed by lead actress and actor Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, respectively; a private cooking lesson with celebrity chef Maria Loi; a tasting menu for six at Loi’s restaurant, Loi Estiatorio; a trip to Aruba; tickets to the N.Y. Mets and N.Y. Yankees; a limited-edition N.Y. Giants football signed by the 2015 team, an Actor’s Garage acting lesson with coach Ann Graf followed by lunch with Colombos, restaurant gift certificates and more.
The Loukoumi Foundation also is hosting a contest asking children and their parents to email a 30-second video to Loukoumi@aol.com. The video assignment is simple: the child must say what they want to be when the grow up and why. The winner, who will be announced a the June 15 event, will receive a “Career Dream Day.”
Past winners have watched robots land on Mars from NASA, played soccer with the New York Red Bulls and more.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Loukoumi Make a Difference Foundation.
