While some were busy spending their summer at the beach or on vacation, “Team Chapel” has been busy pounding the pavement, training for one of the world’s most illustrious races, which is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 6.

As the race gets closer, Team Chapel is ramping up their fundraising efforts, with all five members pledging to raise at least $3,000, with the stated goal of surpassing $15,000 as a group, according to Chapel School Principal James Dhyne. Donations are still being accepted online.

“For many students, the cost of tuition requires that they either receive financial help or enroll in another academic setting which may not provide the academic excellence and emotional support that the Chapel School offers so well,” he added.

Team Chapel - which is comprised of parents Nathan and Katrina Linn, running enthusiast Carlos Juarez, Jim Burkee, the Vice Provost of Graduate and Online Academics at Concordia College, newcomer Lisa Scaramuzzo-Jones and Dmytro Yaskal, who has completed various half marathons - has raised nearly $3,000 in public donations with two months to go before the race.

“The Chapel School is thrilled to partner with the TCS New York City Marathon as an official charity partner,” the school’s Development Office Project Manager Kim Zwisdak said in a statement. “The (marathon) provides a powerful platform for our passionate charity runners to fundraise and raise awareness for causes that are close to their hearts.

“We are looking forward to supporting our runners throughout their memorable journeys as they train for, and ultimately achieve, their goal of completing this race, all while raising critical funds which benefit the Chapel School’s Scholarship Fund.”
