Former Eastchester Beautician, DePaso, Dies at 74

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - Dolores Block DePaso, a longtime Eastchester resident, died Jan. 2 at the age of 74.

She was born Nov. 20, 1937 in Bronx, N.Y. to Erna and Henry Block, immigrants of Bremen, Germany. After the death of her mother in 1948, DePaso lived at The Wartburg Children's home until her father remarried.

DePaso graduated from Edison High School in Mt. Vernon where she studied to become a beautician. She worked in Rye, where Madame Alexander was a former customer. On Jan. 3, 1960, she married Frederick DePaso at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

She was a longtime member of the Scarsdale-Hartsdale Newcomers Club, where she was president in the 1980s and participated in the vowing league and English conversation group. DePaso was also a former member of the Echo Bay Yacht Club in New Rochelle.

Her interests included reading, swimming and playing cards. She became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Scarsdale in 1961 and remained an active member.

She is survived by her son Frederick (Kim) DePaso, her daughter Suzanna Gayle (Robert) Soto, her twin brothers Ralph and Norman Block and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick in 1997.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Edwin L. Bennet Funeral Homes in Scarsdale. The funeral service is 10 a.m. on Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
