Former Tuckahoe Resident, Ecklond Honored Friday

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. -- Former longtime Tuckahoe resident, Arthur Joseph Ecklond, died Nov. 17, 2011 at the age of 88. Memorial services are planned for Friday at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.

Ecklond was the former owner of Manhattan Ladder Company in New York City and lived with his family for many years in Tuckahoe.

Most recently of Jensen Beach, Fla. Ecklond died in Pleasant Hills, Calif. He was born on March 23, 1923 in New York City. Ecklond attended A.B. Davis High School in Mt. Vernon and graduated from New York University. In his youth, he was an avid skier and was a member of the 10th Mountain Division during World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Margaret. Ecklond is survived by his daughters Carol (Jim) Ozimek of Truckee, Calif., Susan Rovzar of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Helen Hejna of Danville, Calif., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert Ecklond of Ocala, Fla.
