TUCKAHOE, N.Y. John F. Gallagher, a longtime Tuckahoe resident, died April 18 in Yorktown. He was 88.
Gallagher was a founder of the Tuckahoe Youth Association in the early 1960's.
He was born in the village of Carrigart in County Donegal, Ireland and was married to Mary Gallagher for 62 years. Along with his wife, Gallagher was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe and a longtime member of the Eastchester Irish American Club.
A lifelong golfer, he was a talented Gaelic football player in his youth. He also had a great appreciation of Shakespeare and classic poetry.
Gallagher is survived by four sons, John (Brenda) Gallagher, Denis (Maria) Gallagher, Brian Gallagher and Ted Gallagher; a brother, Jim Gallagher and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester. A requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
