'Little Koalas' Spread Valentine's Day Love To Tuckahoe Seniors

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Some of Tuckahoe’s youngest – and cutest – members of the community had a special holiday treat for some of the village’s oldest, as kids from Koala Park Daycare made homemade valentines for seniors at The Fountains at Riverview.

Although winter weather precluded the “little koalas” from hand delivering the valentines to The Fountains themselves, Koala Park founder Karina Wylie ensured no senior went unnoticed on a “day that signifies love and friendship.”

Each carefully crafted construction paper-clad card carried a “loving message” to the members at The Fountains, an assisted living and memory care facility for senior citizens.

Since opening two years ago, Wylie and her staff have worked closely with the community, hosting countless events, including the popular “date night,” when parents can drop off their kids at Koala Park to enjoy some alone time.

Wylie said it’s important she instill core values in the children in her care while they’re still at a young, impressionable age.

“By having our children participate in this activity, we hope to instill important values, such as loving, caring and respecting others in our little ones,” she said. “At the same time, we’re ensuring that all 24 members of The Fountains receive something for Valentine’s Day and they do not go unnoticed or cared for on this day that signifies love and friendship.”
