Scarsdale Temple To Screen 'The Rape of Europa'

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – "The Rape of Europa" recounts the systematic theft, deliberate destruction and ultimate survival of Europe's art treasures by the Third Reich during  World War II. The film, based on the 1994 book by Lynn H. Nicholas, will be screened at 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Westchester Reform Temple (WRT) in Scarsdale.

Nicholas, who spent 10 years researching her book, will attend the screening and lead a discussion following the film, along with Linda Wolk Simon, WRT congregant and the Charles W. Englehard curator and head of the Department of Drawings and Prints at New York's Morgan Library & Museum.

"The Rape of Europa" was a winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award. Nicholas was elected to the Légion d'Honneur by the government of France. In 2005, she released her second book, "Cruel World: The Children of Europe in the Nazi Web."

The event is free and open to the public. Westchester Reform Temple is at 255 Mamaroneck Road in Scarsdale. For more information, call 914-723-7727 or email
