Alyssa, 15, received the 2014 Maria Jones Scholarship for "excellence and promise in the field of dance" at the JCC's annual Westchester Theatre of Dance concert in March, according to a release. The award was named in honor of Maria Jones, a former advanced-level ballet instructor who retired from the JCC Dance School in 2003.
Alyssa began ballet in 2002 in the JCC’s preschool dance program. She has performed in eight WTD concerts and in JCC of Mid-Westchester Ballet Outreach presentations throughout the community. Alyssa studies ballet and pointe with instructors Jayne Santoro, Mimi Wallace and Justin Sherwood, according to the release.
