“Team Chapel Arts,” a collective of runners from the school, Village Lutheran Church and Concordia College community, is seeking sponsors for the race, with all proceeds going to benefit various programs at the school.
This isn’t the first time “Team Chapel Arts” has pounded the pavement to raise money for the arts. In the past, they’ve run the ING New York City Marathon, and several times in the NYC Half marathon to benefit the school.
Rev. Robert Hartwell, a senior pastor and team member that will compete in the race, noted that the scenic running route at the New York Road Runners Half Marathon is a good fundraising opportunity for the school.
“The Chapel School is excited to partner with the United Airlines NYC Half as an official charity partner,” Rev. Robert Hartwell, said. “The United NYC Half offers the quintessential New York experience – a 13.1-mile tour of the Big Apple – making the race an ideal fundraising opportunity.
Team members include Hartwell, who has raised more than $400,000 for the school through running, cantor George Heath, parents Mike Cassidy, Diane Hernandez, and Elaine Strommen.
Despite Monday’s nor’Easter, and frigid temperatures that the New Year brought, Chapel School Development Office Project Manager Kim Zwisdak noted that the training of the team hasn’t been slowed.
“The dedication each of these runners has is amazing,” she said. “Even in the snow and harsh cold they are hitting the treadmills or even training outside.”
