EASTCHESTER, N.Y. - Following a successful debut before a capacity crowd at Citi Field last year, the William E. Cottle Chorus has been invited for a repeat performance at the home of the New York Mets.

Last year, under the direction of Cottle music teachers Rachel Axelrod and Keiha Kim, more than 100 students took their talents to Queens to perform the National Anthem in front of an estimated crowd of more than 22,000 Met fans who were in attendance at the game.

This year, before the 7:10 p.m. home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, June 16, the Cottle Chorus is set to once again perform the “Star Spangled Banner” in front of the hometown fans in Flushing.

In order to even be considered for a performance at Citi Field, Cottle teachers had to send a clip of the chorus performing as part of the Mets’ annual school group search. Additionally, the school was asked to sell a select number of tickets to the game.

Last year, the school was asked to buy 200 tickets. The community scoffed at that number, purchasing nearly 1,000 total before the first pitch of the game. With less than two months to go before the game, more than 700 tickets have already been purchased, and the Tuckahoe reserved “Big Apple” section at Citi Field has already sold out.

Those still interested in purchasing tickets can do so through the New York Mets website. A map of the Cottle reserved section is available in the main office.
