TUCKAHOE, N.Y. - Louis Cornacchia, a lifelong resident of Tuckahoe, died March 16 at home with family at his side. He was 83.
Cornacchia was a longtime member and former president of the Tuckahoe-Eastchester Lions Club, where he also served as region chairman and was awarded the Melvin Hones Award.
He was born Oct. 12, 1928 in Tuckahoe and attended school at Edison Tech in Mount Vernon. Cornacchia married his wife, Lillian, Feb. 4, in 1951 and they lived in Mount Vernon before returning to Tuckahoe.
Cornacchia served on the board of the Westchester School for Special Children for 15 years. He also was the owner of County Office Equipment in Yonkers.
A father of three and grandfather of four, his home was referred to as the "do drop in," where family and friends would be welcomed with a pot of gravy on the stove or a hot cup of coffee.
He is survived by his son, Leonard (Debra) Cornacchia; his daughters, Linda (Sheldon) Horn and Lisa Cornacchia; his sisters, Mary Lolis and Carmela (Bill) Salamone. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian; and his siblings, Incoronata Maresco, Rocco Cornacchia, Lucy Scampoli, Angelo Cornacchia, Ida Parella, Eugene Cornacchia and Elvira O'Dell.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester. The funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
