EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Although power has been restored to nearly all Con Edison customers in Tuckahoe, more than 2,600 in Eastchester remained without power Monday afternoon in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Just 29 out of 2,867 customers in Tuckahoe were still being affected by outages, while 2,608 of their neighbors in Eastchester were without power.

In Tuckahoe, the new medical office building on Main Street was still affected, along with just two residences. Fuel deliveries resumed in the village, and the long lines for gas look to be diminishing, Mayor Steven Ecklond said.

“The continued long lines for getting to the pumps seems to be a result of an increase in customers from other areas who have no access to gas in their neighborhoods,” he said. “I expect that this problem will steadily diminish every day for the next few days.”

In Eastchester, two outages on California Road were affecting 347 customers. Three outages on Mill Road eliminated power to 163 customers. Around the Leewood Golf Club, 13 outages continued to affect 247 customers.

Parts of town with the largest number of outages were being activated first, Town Supervisor Anthony Colavita said. Crews from the Highway Department were on standby and waiting for Con Edison to make progress.

Lake Isle Country Club remained open as a place for residents to shower and charge their devices.
