The 79-year-old man smashed through the front window of the popular White Plains Road seafood restaurant while the establishment was still closed on Monday.

There was staff in the building preparing for dinner service, but no injuries were reported, despite massive damage that forced the Eastchester Fish Gourmet to close down for the evening.

There was no structural damage to the building, but a massive cleanup is required after the car destroyed several booths, seating areas and shattered glass in the heart of the restaurant. On Tuesday, contracting crews and assisting employees were still busy clearing out debris and damaged materials.

“We heard a crash, and turned, and we had no idea what had happened,” said Mario Jimenez, who is working on a construction project nearby. “We went down to check what happened and just saw a mess. Good that no one got hurt.”

It was unclear whether the restaurant would be opened for dinner on Tuesday, though it is expected to be available by the end of the week. The crash was deemed an accident by police, and no charges will be filed against the driver.
