“Important documents, such as military discharge papers, can sometimes get lost or damaged,” said Idoni in a statement. “As a result, our local veterans should consider filing their DD-214 military discharge papers with my office for safe-keeping."

It takes only a few minutes to complete a DD-214 military discharge paper filing with the County Clerk’s office. Veterans should bring their original DD-214 to the Legal Division of the office, where a clerk will make a digital copy. The copy is then sealed to protect and preserve privacy, filed, and the original returned to the veteran before they leave the office.

This important document will then be saved in perpetuity, and should the veteran ever misplace or damage the document, an image can be provided for free by the Clerk.

The staff at the Office of the Westchester County Clerk is available to assist veterans if they have any questions by calling (914)-995-3070.

The office, which is located at 110 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in White Plains, is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays. Information is also available on the County Clerk website.
