It took two months, 50 volunteers, lots of phone calls and planning to get the annual Family Fun Day held at Eastchesters Greenvale School up and running.
Even Principal Theresa Sullivan helped out selling raffle tickets to families on the way onto the school for yesterday's festivities.
This is a family event for all of the Greenvale families Sullivan said. We have activities, music and even a barbecue going so we can all share a meal together.
At the helm of the event for Greenvales 530 students were PTA co-chairs Heather Mancusso and Nettie Cicalo.
While Cicalo said the event does raise some money, it is more of a celebration than a fundraiser. She also explained whatever money was raised goes right back to the PTA for funding events, classes and programs for the students. It's all for the kids, Cicalo said. Everything we make goes back to them.
Cicalo is the veteran at planning the event, this being her second year. I already put my name in for next year, she said. But this year we did not plan on the wind, which is a challenge.
Challenged or not, PTA President Marianne Gordineer gave Cicalo and her committee high marks for the luau-themed event. They did a wonderful job in creating a great night for the kids, Gordineer said. The event is a way for all of us to show our Greenvale pride and have a lot of fun.
