Census Bureau estimates will be released Monday. Florida and New York will be separated by a few thousand people, the report said. If Florida does not overtake New York this year, it will almost certainly occur in 2014.
California and Texas are 1-2 in population. New York residents are fleeing to Florida for weather, retirement and the economy, as New York has lost a significant number of manufacturing jobs. Buffalo has lost more than 10 percent of its population since 2000, according to the story, and population in Rochester and Syracuse is stagnant.
