Joaquin Strengthens, Effects In Westchester Should Start Friday

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Hurricane Joaquin has been upgraded to a Category 4, and seems to be veering east to the sea, bringing much uncertainty to the impact it will have along the East Coast., according to The Weather Channel.

Meteorologists are stressing that even if the hurricane goes out to the east, they can't rule out any direct impacts to the East Coast, and all residents should still be prepared for high winds and flooding. 

Westchester will feel the impact of Joaquin's predecessor rain event after noontime on Friday during a day in which high temperatures will top out in the mid 50s. Rain is also likely Friday night. Total rainfall of around an inch is possible during the day.

Flood warnings are currently in effect from the Carolina's to Connecticut through Saturday, due to a surge of moisture that's leading the storm.

Even with the storm's uncertainty, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has already begun taking precautions for rain, flooding, and high winds.In preparation for flash flooding.

The New York City Department of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory.
