Lowey Asks Feds To Repay NYC For $300K Daily Cost To Guard Trump Tower

HARRISON, N.Y. --  Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Rockland/Westchester) and Congressman José E. NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill informed the Congressional delegation Wednesday that NYPD and FDNY spent $25.7 million for this purpose between Election Day and the inauguration, and ongoing daily costs for NYPD of up to $308,000 when President Trump is in New York.

“Providing continuous, presidential-level security at Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan is a task of unprecedented scale. There is no law enforcement agency in the world more capable of undertaking this responsibility, in cooperation with the U.S. Secret Service, than NYPD," said Lowey in a statement.

“However, there is no reason why New York taxpayers should have to foot the bill for this enormous undertaking. Protecting the President of the United States and his family is a federal responsibility. New York must be fully reimbursed for the costs in manpower, overtime, and operations, including the $25.7 million to protect the President-elect and his family between the Election Day and the inauguration and ongoing costs during his presidency."

“As Ranking Democrats on the full House Appropriations Committee, and the Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee, we will fight to ensure New York is fully reimbursed for these costs through the Fiscal Year 2017 Appropriations package, which must be enacted by April 28.”

Trump, who owns the $19.5 million Seven Springs estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor.

The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
