Sire Lewis, 30, allegedly used female "mules," sometimes dressed in hospital scrubs to allay suspicion, to cash fraudulent checks containing stolen account information from area businesses, the district attorney said.
The defendant allegedly gained access to a company’s account information, then created forgeries using the stolen account number and had a mule go to various banks to cash the forged checks.
Lewis allegedly had twenty-two forged business checks purporting to be drawn on the business checking accounts of Dependable Ambulette Inc. located in Valley Stream, Long Island and AK International Architectural Wood of Whitestone, Queens on his person an array of check forging paraphernalia in his residence and an illegal handgun, the district attorney said.
Lewis was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a forgery device and 22 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Lewis is scheduled to reappear in court on Aug. 18 and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, the district attorney said.
