TUCKAHOE, N.Y. A New Jersey man faces felony drug charges after the car in which he was riding was stopped early Tuesday on suspicion of running a stop sign, Tuckahoe police said.
A 1998 Nissan Maxima with New Jersey plates was seen running a stop sign at Main Street and Oak Avenue at 2:42 a.m. Tuesday, Tuckahoe Police Lt. Ray Stabile said. As the officer approached the car, Stabile said, he smelled marijuana and noticed two passengers in the back seat trying to hide something under the seat. He called for backup.
The car's occupants were asked to step out for questioning. One officer looked into the car and saw a black plastic bag that contained 51 rocks of crack cocaine, Stabile said.
One of the passengers, Quadic Bellamy, 23, of Newark, N.J., was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.
The driver, Rahjon Cox, 22, of Newark, was arrested and charged with giving false personation to an officer, a misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a violation.
Both men were sent to Westchester County Jail, and the vehicle was impounded.
