MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Westchester County residents without power can look to Mamaroneck-based Stetson Real Estate for heat, running water and electricity.
"People are welcome to come by with their laptops – we have Wi-Fi – their cell phones or other electronic devices to re-charge their batteries, or just a free, hot cup of coffee," said Rob Seitz, a company agent, in an email to The Daily Voice .
CEO Mary Stetson said the hours are flexible because she lives a just a mile from the office. While normal hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Stetson said, "if somebody needs longer time or a different time," they can call (914) 381-7173.
The company also has matched six families through a short-term house-sharing program. People who do not have power and would be interested can send an email to WarmUp@StetsonRealEstate.com. They must provide the number of adults and kids in the family, their current home address, contact info, any allergies, and if they have any pets.
People who would like to share their home with those who do not have power can contact Stetson Real Estate at (914) 381-7173.
In addition, the company is trying to help those who suffered damage to their property and cannot currently live there.
"We have some short-term rentals for people who are looking to rent short-term in the event that their homes suffered serious damage and they need housing on more than just a temporary basis," Seitz said.
Seitz mentioned that the neighboring company, Mill Square Cleaners, "has a rack of unclaimed dry-cleaning clothes that he is willing to give away to people who need some fresh clothes."
Seitz said the independent real estate firm is "here for the community – no strings attached."
Mary Stetson said it came down to helping others in the aftermath of Sandy, with all members of the company asking themselves what they could do for others.
