Tigers Roar on Seniors Day

Six Tuckahoe High senior softball players were honored before their final regular-season game Tuesday and after being celebrated the streaking Tigers went out and soundly defeated neighboring Bronxville 18-2 at Cottle Field in Tuckahoe.

The seniors, joined by their parents, were called out individually to the field prior to the game, where their numbers were spray painted on the infield dirt. The underclassmen on the team presented each senior with a flower and a balloon.  Also, each senior had her own poster hanging behind the dugout.

Tuckahoe scored first to take a 1-0 lead and Bronxville answered with two runs to take a 2-1 second-inning lead. The Tigers scored twice to retake the lead in the third inning then added single runs in the next two innings to stretch the lead to 5-2. From that point the seniors celebrated their final game with a barrage of runs accented by Lexi Kargbo’s three-run home run that completed a nine-run burst and ended the game after six innings under the 10-run rule.

The Tuckahoe softball senior day was fittingly celebrated.  Each senior player reached base safely and scored.  Casey Stevko drove in four runs and Dana Cirillo pitched a complete-game gem.  Tuckahoe finished with a record of 13-5, marking one of the best seasons in school history, and qualified for the Section 1 Class C Championship to be played on June 2 against Haldane at Nanuet High School.
