The groups are trying to help neighbors, friends and others who have suffered catastrophic loss and are beginning the process of collecting items of necessity to be distributed to those in need.

Items needed include blankets, hats, gloves, various size clothing (adults, teens, kids, infants), toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, shoes,  batteries, body soap, washcloths, towels, winter jackets, pre-paid cell phones, transistor radios, anything else donors may deem essential or a necessity.

In terms of clothing, the organizers ask they be new or slightly used.

"Anything your family can provide would be a tremendous resource for our immediate neighbors, family friends, and those families who suffered catastrophic loss," the groups said in statement. "Every item will make a difference to someone."

Contributions may be dropped off at the Tuckahoe Community Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Volunteer are needed to collect donations at the Tuckahoe Community Center from 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
