The massive "I Lift NY" super crane placed the girder assembly on the eastbound part of the span.

The super crane will install the final handful of girder assemblies on the westbound span during the coming weeks.

The remaining girders will be placed after the existing bridge is demolished, the authority said.

When all is said and done, crews from Tappan Zee Constructors will have installed 31 miles of steel girders, cumulatively weighing more than 100,000 tons.

Tappan Zee Constructors is getting ready to pour concrete for the new Westchester landing in Tarrytown.

That part of the project means concrete trucks will be traveling near South Broadway in the area of the southbound thruway, the authority said.

Meanwhile, workers are expected to complete a retaining wall between the South Broadway bridge and River Road in South Nyack.

That is part of the noise barrier project taking place along the southbound thruway (Route 87/287).

Once those foundations are in place, Tappan Zee Constructors will begin installing concrete noise barrier panels.

Tappan Zee Constructors also will continue to build foundation walls for the future highway and shared-use path along the northbound thruway in South Nyack.

Other work includes:

  • The installation of stay cables.
  • Main span tower construction.
  • Support for river-based work from the Rockland trestle.
  • Rockland landing retaining walls.
  • Survey inspections on the existing bridge.
  • Utility work at the Westchester landings.
  • Girder assembly placement.
  • Bridge road deck installation.
  • Drainage structure installation.
  • Maintenance facility construction in Tarrytown.
  • Soil boring in South Nyack.

Pile driving operations will only take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.
