At the event, the association announced a generous donation, debuted their new logo and handed out their most recent publication, "2014: Children By The Numbers."

The WCA helps children through scholarships, enrolling them in low-cost health insurance, opening and maintaining child care centers in courthouses, creating child care subsidies, opening and running a shelter for runaway and homeless youth, running youth programs, running supervised visitation programs for children and their estranged parents and many other services.

Patricia Lanza of Eastchester was revealed as the generous donor who will be matching donations up to $500,000 on behalf of the Lanza Association.

"I have always worked with kids, and this organization does so much with them," she told The Daily Voice. "It's such a good cause, and it represents ages of kids from the youngest up to 21 year olds. I am glad to help."

Cathy Draper, WCA board president, said the association has dedicated itself to helping children across the county who are economically or otherwise disadvantaged for a very long time.

"We have been helping children since the World War I era," she said.

Cora Greenberg, Executive Director of the WCA, explained that though Westchester is characterized by its wealth, many people go without in its borders.

"A lot of people view Westchester as the land of plenty," she said, "But everyone needs to be involved in helping children, whether it is voting with children in mind, contacting your local officials and policymakers, or raising money."

Sam's of Gedney Way also donated 10-percent of the revenue from lunch and dinner purchases and 100-percent of maitre d' tips to the association.
