Westchester Churches Hold Final Masses Before Closures, Mergers

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Final masses were held Sunday morning at churches across the area affected by the archdiocese closing 17 parishes merging 31 total parishes into 14.

Among the churches to close across the five boroughs are locations in Dutchess, Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties as well as churches in Yonkers.

St. Denis in Yonkers, which will merge with St. Peter's Church parish, was among the churches hold a final mass.

St. Vito's Church will become the parish church in Mamaroneck in a merger with Holy Trinity, which is about a mile away.

In Mount Vernon, Our Lady of Victory will become the parish church for Sacred Heart, Saint Mary will become the parish church for Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Peter & Paul will be the parish church for St. Ursula.

In Yonkers, in addition to St. Peter becoming the parish church for St. Denis, Saint John the Baptist will be the parish church for Most Holy Trinity.

It was also announced that the Salesian community will minister to Port Chester with one parish church and one church for sacraments.
