Woman Charged With Theft in Eastchester Store

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – A Bronx woman was arrested April 4 and charged with stealing a bathing suit from the Lord & Taylor store at 750 White Plains Road in Eastchester.

According to Lt. Jeff Hunter of the Eastchester Police Department, police were called to the store at 8:56 p.m. after someone called 911 to report an altercation in the parking lot. Lord & Taylor security workers told police they were trying to catch a shoplifter and confronted her, but that she fled east on Wilmot Road. Police searched the area but did not find the woman.

Meanwhile, Hunter said, security workers caught another woman who they said was a cohort of the first woman. Store security told police this woman had taken a bathing suit into a dressing room and removed the security sensor, damaging the suit. The woman, they said, then hid the suit in her pants and left the store on the Wilmot Road side, where she was arrested by Eastchester police, Hunter said.

The woman, Atika Baptiste, 25, of the Bronx, was charged with petit larceny and released on $200 cash bail, Hunter said.
