Emily Dearden, 47, allegedly shot her husband in the head while he was sleeping on the night of Nov. 14, 2013. Kenneth Dearden was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he remained for eight days while doctors performed surgery to remove the .22 caliber bullet, the district attorney said.

“One of the most troubling aspects of the allegations in this indictment is that whatever may have precipitated the defendant’s actions against her husband, they were carried out just feet from where their children were sleeping,” DiFiore said in a statement.

Emily Dearden was charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and four counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

If convicted, Emily Dearden faces up to 25 years in prison, the district attorney said.
